Added, the catalogue stays

An insulation reference, beside the absorber, not instead of it.

A ceiling panel shortens the tail inside the room. A theatre wall, a stadium-suite glass, and a classroom door stop sound passing. The atlas keeps the two lines apart for theatres, halls, stadiums and classrooms — from the pit and the control room to the hotel hall, practice rooms and the floating floor — with planning figures, not invented laboratory certificates.

Open the atlas

Read this before choosing

Four rooms. Each has a line that is not borrowed from its neighbour.

The catalogue chooses the absorber. The atlas names the insulation limit. Mixing them is what makes a specification thin: a class A panel on a hall ceiling offered as if it were a theatre wall. The figures here are planning ranges, checked against the code and a measurement. They are not laboratory certificates.

A theatre, about 600 seats

The audience and the player share one volume. DnT,w is not written between them. It is written towards the foyer: a two-door lobby, not both open during a quiet scene. It is written towards a room under the pit: L'nT,w first, because the drum is impact, then airborne sound if that room is used while the orchestra plays. Control glass is two panes of unequal thickness and a frame with no drain slot towards the house. A class A ceiling panel comes after that, to shorten the tail. Its figure is not pasted onto the house wall.

A wedding hall under hotel rooms

Dancing at night is heard by the bed above the slab. The line is L'nT,w after the final floor: mass on a resilient layer, and a perimeter strip so the finish does not touch the wall. A second hall behind an operable wall is measured after installation, and the ceiling above the track is closed to the slab or speech crosses over the panel. Reinforced music below 125 Hz does not appear in a single Rw. Absorption inside the hall raises speech clarity for the guests and does not lower the impact in the room above.

A stadium suite over the bowl

Three lines are written apart. The bowl’s tail is absorption and layout, not insulation. Suite privacy is installed glass and a door, measured as DnT,w with the crowd in the bowl. The neighbour outside the ground is a permit limit, usually at the façade, and Rw alone is weak against a low spectrum so Ctr is asked for. Jumping in the stands reaches the suite floor through the steel. Glass does not stop it. If the roof is light metal, rain is a fourth line, impact that raises the commentary room’s background.

A classroom beside a music room

Where the two rooms sit on the plan is cheaper than thickening the wall after the complaint. If they touch, DnT,w for the music room is higher than a speech-classroom limit, the door is a complete set, and the duct is not shared. An ordinary speech classroom loses its figure at the door open to the corridor and at a suspended ceiling that runs over the partition. The void is closed to the slab. A panel or baffle from the catalogue is then specified for absorbing area, so reverberation can approach about 0.6 seconds in an ordinary speech room. That is a planning target checked against the school guide, not a panel certificate.

Language of the schedule

Six sentences for the schedule. And what is not written in their place.

This is planning language for a specifier, not a product certificate. The catalogue names the absorber. These sentences name the insulation limit, so a panel is not bought and handed over as if it were a wall.

  1. 01

    Absorption inside the room

Supply a BOXTECH ISO absorber by its system name, thickness, position and area, with the absorption class published for that system, not for the whole family. The target is an approximate reverberation time, checked on the calculator and then by measurement. The line does not mention Rw or DnT,w.

Do not write: “acoustic insulation, class A.” Class A is absorption. Insulation is a different figure for a different element.

  2. 02

    Theatre house towards the foyer

DnT,w is measured between house and foyer with doors closed, under ISO 16283-1. The entrance is a lobby of two doors, not both open during a quiet scene. A single leaf’s Rw is not accepted in place of measuring the two rooms. The pit is not a party to this line: it is open to the seats on purpose.

Do not write insulation between the audience and the player. They share one volume. A ceiling panel shortens the tail and does not close the foyer.

  3. 03

Two halls and a moving wall

DnT,w is measured after the operable wall is installed, not from the panel’s sheet while it is still on the floor. The ceiling above the track is closed to the slab. If the hall sits under bedrooms, add L'nT,w after the finished floor: mass on a resilient layer, and a perimeter strip that does not touch the wall. Reinforced music below 125 Hz is named on its own, because a single number hides it.

Do not replace a floating floor with an absorbing ceiling panel. Impact climbs the slab. Absorption stays with the guests inside the hall.

  4. 04

    A stadium suite

Three separate lines. The bowl: reverberation and layout, with no DnT,w between the crowd and the pitch. The suite: installed glass and a door, measured as DnT,w with the crowd in the bowl. The neighbour: the permit limit at the façade, and Ctr if the spectrum is low. Jumping on the stands is a fourth, impact line if the frame reaches the suite floor. Rain on a light roof is a fifth line for the commentary room.

Do not fold the three into “stadium insulation, 50 dB.” The bowl is not insulated from itself, and the suite is not measured by the neighbour’s window.

  5. 05

    A speech classroom beside music

The two rooms should not touch if the plan allows it. If they do, the music limit is higher than a speech-classroom limit, the door is a complete set, and the duct is not shared. A suspended ceiling is closed to the slab above the partition. After the shell is closed, an absorber from the catalogue is specified for an area that can bring reverberation toward the school guide, often about 0.6 seconds for an ordinary speech room. That is a planning target, not a panel certificate.

Do not promise a volume without a door the insulation of a closed classroom. An open corridor is a door. A practice room is not a classroom that gets the same panel.

  6. 06

    Handover, not opening night

Insulation is handed over by a field measurement: ISO 16283-1 for airborne sound and ISO 16283-2 for impact, in third octaves, with doors and services as they will be in use. Absorption is handed over by a reverberation measurement in the same room after installation. An impression on opening night is not a record.

Do not accept a laboratory certificate for a door specimen and then measure the whole room expecting the same figure. A small hole caps a large wall.

The people behind the product

A family company since 1965, more than 7,500 people, and a campus of about 200,000 m² in Arnstorf. Their words, as published.

  • Textile product development

    Thomas Schwaiger

I have been developing textile acoustic products for our customers for fifteen years — from the first conversation to the patented product. Tuned acoustic values, a convincing appearance, and straightforward installation matter to me.
  • Manufacturing quality

    Thomas Seil

I trained as a metalworker and I am a state-certified construction technician. The quality of what leaves the workshop is what I hold myself to.
  • Ceilings and acoustic solutions

    Christian Wiedemann

I have worked with ceiling systems and acoustic solutions for more than twenty years. I like a project idea becoming something that can actually be installed.

isolation

Acoustic insulation atlas A schedule for theatres, halls, stadiums and classrooms: eight lines that repeat. A banquet hall is split one night and joined the next. The operable wall is measured after it is installed. Simultaneous meeting rooms fail in the shared ceiling before they fail at the door. A commentary box and a control room are isolated by glass, then quieted by the air. Two neighbouring screens are isolated from each other before the cloth is chosen. A classroom is isolated from the next classroom, from the corridor, and from the gym above. Control-room glass is the house wall. The frame decides the figure, not the pane thickness alone. A hearing room isolates intelligible speech from the corridor and from the next room. Absorption is not insulation. Confusing them ruins the schedule. A door is a set, not a leaf. The threshold and the frame are the insulation. A double wall wins if the cavity stays a cavity. A bridge turns it back into one wall. A dressing room is isolated from the house and from the next room. A curtain is not a door. Wall, floor, door, glass: the shell equals its weakest opening. A façade on a road or a stadium is written as Rw with Ctr, not Rw alone. Eleven failures that repeat in theatres, halls, stadiums and schools. The measurement day is agreed before the build, not after the complaint. Sound goes around the wall more often than through it. A floating floor is mass on a resilient layer. One rigid point is enough to spoil it. Glass limits the suite, the control room and the façade. Thickness alone is not enough. In a hot climate the machine on the roof is the neighbour. Seals tire from dust and heat. A sports hall over a classroom is measured as impact and airborne together. An operable wall is a system: track, pocket, ceiling and floor seal. Not a panel. A multi-use hall fails if it is built as one room with a moving wall. Handover is a measurement of the agreed rooms, not an impression on opening night. A hotel hall at night is impact towards the rooms above, and airborne sound towards the next hall. A two-door lobby at the audience entrance raises the limit more than a heavier leaf alone. One duct without a silencer defeats a theatre wall and the NR curve. Stadium footsteps and a hall’s ball are measured as L'nT,w. A higher figure here is worse. A good wall loses where it meets the floor, the ceiling and the façade. A lecture theatre is isolated from the foyer, then absorbed until the last consonant is clear. A locker room under the bowl hears jumping above it, and sound between it and the media. Rw, DnT,w, STC: which number belongs in the contract A music room is not a heavier classroom. It is a louder source beside a quieter neighbour. A classroom without a door is not promised the insulation of a closed one. Say so in the brief. A small hole puts a ceiling on the insulation of a large wall. The rough rule is known before the measurement. The orchestra pit is open to the house on purpose. Insulation is to what sits under it and beside it. A small practice room is a higher line than a speech classroom. The door and the ventilation drop the figure. Rain on a light roof raises the background of a closed bowl and of the commentary room. That is impact, not horn aim. A school is a row of limits: classroom, corridor, music, hall and prayer room. Insulating a classroom from its neighbour does not make the consonant clear inside the room. A neighbour hears aim and level, not the rating of a wall that is not there. The suite, the commentator and the locker room are isolated from the bowl. The bowl itself is not isolated from the sky. A stadium is heard in the bowl, in the suite, and at the neighbour’s window. Three limits, not one. The standards shelf: which document is named in which line. Jumping in the bowl reaches the suite through the frame. Glass does not stop it. How to write an insulation line so it can be measured on handover. A theatre is isolated from the foyer, the plant and the neighbours, then absorbed inside. One duct cancels the auditorium wall. The auditorium is a box inside the building, not a hall with absorbent paint. What does not travel in air travels in the frame: a generator, a winch, a crowd. A prayer hall and a stone majlis: echo inside the room, insulation from the neighbour and the classroom.
