Insulation atlas/Stadium · enclosed rooms
The suite, the commentator and the locker room are isolated from the bowl. The bowl itself is not isolated from the sky.
Glass towards the pitch is the usual limit. The frame, the slot and the air-conditioning undo a good figure on paper.

The glass
A hospitality suite and a commentary box need intelligible speech while the crowd is shouting. A single pane, however thick, hits coincidence and drops. A more useful planning build: two panes of unequal thickness, a wide cavity, and a gas fill if it is wanted thermally — the gas alone is not counted as acoustic insulation. The frame has no open drain slot towards the bowl, and the hinges are not left unsealed. The laboratory figure of the unit is reduced by installation and by flanking through the slab. The measurement asked after closing: DnT,w between the room and the source, door shut, air running.
The commentary room also needs a low background. An NR inside the room dies if the fan is on the same wall or the duct velocity is high. A close microphone does not forgive a noisy room: it picks the noise up. A desk that sits on the bowl slab carries vibration into the microphone. A resilient break under the desk, or under the room floor, is studied with the structure, because the bowl frame vibrates with jumping.
Under the bowl
Locker rooms, the tunnel, treatment and media sit under people walking and jumping. That is impact: L'nT,w, not the side wall’s Rw alone. If the concourse floor above is the structural slab, they need a resilient ceiling below it or impact treatment from above. Airborne insulation between two neighbouring rooms — two teams, or media and a locker room — is a wall and a door, with back-to-back boxes and a shared duct prevented. Generators and electrical rooms: mass, a door, silencers on the air openings, and a resilient base. An absorbing panel on the outside face closes none of this.
- An enclosed arena is treated as a large hall: a shell to the street, and impact from the internal seating.
- An open media platform is not a commentary room. It is not promised the same figure.
- Absorption inside the suite sets the speech tail after the glass is settled. It is not bought instead of the glass.
Enclosed stadium limits. Planning ranges, checked against the city’s rules and a measurement.
| Room | Line | What undoes it |
|---|---|---|
| Suite / bowl | DnT,w of the installed glass | A frame slot, a door without seals |
| Commentary | DnT,w, then NR | A fan, desk vibration |
| Lockers under a concourse | L'nT,w | A bare slab overhead |
| Generator | Mass, silencer, base | An office door, a rigid pipe |

- Stadium · neighbourhoodA neighbour hears aim and level, not the rating of a wall that is not there.
- School · planA school is a row of limits: classroom, corridor, music, hall and prayer room.
- Classroom · clarityInsulating a classroom from its neighbour does not make the consonant clear inside the room.
