A banquet hall is split one night and joined the next. The operable wall is measured after it is installed.

The wall that moves
An operable leaf is tested in the laboratory with its track. In the hall it falls at the suspended ceiling, at the pocket, and at the floor if the seal does not drop. Anyone who wants two dinners at once, or a conference beside a party, does not stop at a printed Rw 50. They close the void above the track up to the slab, and they ask for a measurement after installation with the doors closed. Escape doors in the wall count inside the figure.
The neighbour and the hotel
A hall in a hotel or beside housing: a night limit at the façade is a city rule, and a limit in the rooms above is impact from dancing and chairs. A resilient floor or a separating ceiling under those rooms is settled early. Inside the hall, a long tail raises the level the loudspeakers must reach; ceiling absorption lowers what the sound system needs. It is a comfort and clarity line, not the line that stops the neighbour. Plant and generators on the roof above the hall are a repeated night path.
- A lobby towards the hotel foyer if guests are sleeping in the same wing.
- Do not write ‘soundproof’ on an operable wall with no standard and no measurement.
