Insulation atlas/The contract

How to write an insulation line so it can be measured on handover.

The sentence ‘soundproof to good practice’ cannot be tested. The figure, the standard, the place, and the state of flanking are the line.

The form of the line

A theatre example: ‘Wall between auditorium and foyer: DnT,w not less than 60 dB to ISO 16283-1 and ISO 717-1, with doors closed and the air system running at the agreed speed. Measured with at least three source positions.’ A classroom example: ‘Between teaching rooms: DnT,w ≥ 45, and L'nT,w ≤ 60 from the corridor above if the use is ordinary and not sport.’ The consultant’s figure replaces the example. What matters is that it can be measured.

  • Name the element, not the whole room, if the door is outside the scope.
  • State whether the figure is a laboratory Rw of the element or a field value of the installed partition.
  • Tie absorption to a second line: RT60 or an area of αw. Do not fold it into the insulation line.
  • State who attends the measurement, and who rebuilds if the partition falls short.

What stays outside the promise

The tables in this reference are planning ranges drawn from practice and from the standards named, not laboratory reports issued in the name of BOXTECH ISO. Absorber systems in the catalogue keep their published data (class A on the board S24/R24-C sheet, and the A1 description for the cover family). Insulation is demonstrated by measuring the element and the installed system on the project.
