Audiovisual (AV) systems: sound, display and control for theatres and halls

Audiovisual systems carry content from the platform to every seat and from the room to the world. Yet the best equipment cannot rescue a room with poor acoustics or loudspeakers in the wrong places. At BoxTech O2mea we design AV systems together with the room and choose equipment by real use rather than brand names.

How we approach av systems

Sound design starts with coverage: how does sound reach the first and the last row at a similar level? Here we choose between line arrays for long rooms and theatres and point-source or distributed loudspeakers for smaller rooms and conference halls, using DSP to set delays and balance.

Display depends on content size, distance and ambient light: LED walls for lit rooms and events, projectors for darkened rooms and cinemas, sized so text is legible from the furthest seat.

Control brings everything into one interface and is now built on networks that carry audio, video and control, making recording, streaming and later expansion easier.

Project types

  • Theatre sound systems
  • Conference and delegate microphone systems
  • LED displays and video walls
  • Projection and cinema
  • Recording and streaming
  • Control rooms

Project phases

  1. Use analysis — Content, audience and streaming.
  2. Coverage design — Simulation of sound distribution and loudspeaker positions.
  3. Display — Screen or projector size and position.
  4. Control and networks — Interfaces and routes.
  5. Installation and tuning — Calibration and performance checks.
  6. Training — For operators.

Materials

Line-array or point-source loudspeakers

According to room shape.

Digital signal processors

For balance, delay and protection.

Wired and wireless microphones

For platform and audience.

LED displays or laser projectors

According to light and distance.

Engineering aspects

Speech intelligibility

We target a high STI, which depends on room reverberation and noise.

Coverage uniformity

Limited level variation between seats.

Screen size

Following industry guidance such as AVIXA viewing-distance standards.

Networks

Networked audio protocols such as Dante for flexible distribution.

Figures quoted are general guidance from common professional practice; final values for each project are set by its use and the requirements of the competent authorities.

Applications and clients

  • Theatres
  • Conference halls
  • Universities
  • Hotels and cultural centres

We deliver av systems first in Saudi Arabia: Riyadh where we are based, then Jeddah and the Makkah region, Dammam and Khobar in the Eastern Province, Makkah and Madinah, and other regions. Beyond that we serve GCC countries (UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman), aligning with each country’s local requirements, and we review international requests case by case.

Checklist before you start

  • Are room acoustics suitable before choosing equipment?
  • Is simulated coverage even?
  • Are screen size and brightness right for ambient light?
  • Is infrastructure (power, networks, containment) planned with the building?
  • Is there safe maintenance access?
  • Are training and operating documents in scope?

Common mistakes we help you avoid

  • Buying powerful equipment for a highly reverberant room
  • Loudspeakers positioned to cause feedback with microphones
  • Neglecting earthing and dedicated circuits
  • No documentation after handover

Requirements in Saudi Arabia

We supply equipment from authorised suppliers with warranty documentation, address electrical and suspended-load safety, and hand over as-built system drawings to ease maintenance and expansion.

What you receive

  • An initial technical notes report after drawing review or site visit
  • A clear itemised scope of work
  • Approved drawings and specifications before construction
  • A programme linked to project stages
  • Records of concealed works and handover with documents and training

How to prepare your request

To speed up the study, prepare what you have: the architectural plan (PDF or CAD), building sections and clear heights, the expected audience size, the main uses in order of importance, photos of the existing site if any, and the target programme. The information need not be complete; helping you complete it is part of our work.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a line array and a point source?

A line array controls vertical dispersion to cover long distances evenly; a point source suits smaller rooms and shorter throws. Our knowledge hub explains the difference.

Is an LED wall better than a projector?

In lit rooms and events usually yes; in darkened rooms a projector remains a good economical option.

Can the hall stream events?

Yes, with cameras, audio feeds and a suitable network.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes, periodic maintenance and technical support can be agreed.
