Fundamentals of theatre and stand design
Planning a stadium bowl: sector, sun and exit
Why a ground is not dressed in one chair, and how sun, gate and the field line are checked before colour.
Choosing the chair from a photograph before the riser is measured.
The sector before the colour
A stadium is not one room. It is a set of sectors: general, density, media, hospitality, access. Each has a length of sitting, a pitch, an aisle and a maintenance regime. The general seat is used thousands of times a season, so the hinge and the spare come before the polymer colour. A media seat needs a table, power and a path for a camera. Hospitality is a room, not a darker row. Putting all of these in one line because a photograph looked good is where the bill of quantities starts to fight.
Sun in the Gulf and North Africa is a materials clause, not a styling clause. A west stand fades a pale colour and blinds the camera at sunset. The sample is seen on site at the hour the match is played, not in the warehouse. Dust needs a drain in an outdoor seat, and galvanizing is checked on the steel before a new chair is mounted on it. The count is printed on tickets after camera platforms and aisles are deducted, not before.
The exit comes before capacity
The capacity announced at a press conference is not the capacity a ground is licensed for. Exit is calculated with people standing, the gate working, and the aisle not narrowed by an arm. A last row jammed under a low roof loses the field line even if it stays in the count. We ask about the door first, then the eye, then the chair. BoxTech keeps the family name. boxtech draws the sector around it.
